Drying Towels
It is late on a warm summer evening. After a full day of swimming, the towels have been left to dry on the washing line.
Petr Gruber places a fence at the centre of the composition, a recurring element in his work. The scene appears quiet and almost abandoned, yet it is never truly still. The wind moves through the fabric, while the traces of human presence suggest that someone has only just stepped beyond the frame.
Gruber paints the moment after something has happened: when a place falls silent, but continues to carry the life that passed through it.
This painting is connected to a work out of the same memory series: “Evening between pines” & “It’s Garages”
