Carbonades Flamandes
Carbonades Flamandes brings Belgian culture to the walls of the Olympic Stadium’s hospitality suites. Created by tattoo artist Lafluite from Braine-l’Alleud, the painting captures a familiar scene from village life: a weekend football match with the entire community gathered around the pitch.
At the centre of the composition, football naturally becomes the focus of everyone’s attention. Small Belgian houses, players, spectators and humorous details form a lively world that reveals more of itself the longer you look.
For Lafluite, football is unmistakably Belgian, just like our bruine kroegen, local beer and the people who gather around them. The weather may not always be perfect, but there is always a reason to come together: to play, watch, talk, cheer or simply share time with one another.
Through its warm colours and retro atmosphere, the work returns to the roots of Belgian life. For generations, the village square, schoolyard and football field have served as places of connection. Here, football is the excuse, much like a good Flemish carbonnade shared around a table.
An ordinary Sunday scene, and a celebration of football, folklore and the simple pleasure of being together.
The painting Carbonades Flamands was specially created for the exhibtion in the Olympic Stadium of Beerschot.
