Memento Mori
Remember that you must die.
Daan Koens transforms the ancient Latin warning into a deeply personal reflection on living in the present, growing older and embracing pleasure while it is still within reach.
Life and death pull at one another across the canvas, caught in a quiet yet unsettling tension. With echoes of Picasso and Lucebert, Daan creates an image that feels both timeless and unmistakably contemporary.
Memento Mori does not simply ask to be observed. It confronts, reminds and stays with you. A commanding work for a collection built around art with meaning.
On his Instagram, Daan Koens posted this painting with the remark to remember to live our live. A ying-yang reference to this famous quote.
